Schubart, Wilhelm

SCHUBART, WILHELM (1873-1960)

A papyrologist. He was a pupil of Ulrich Wilcken and worked from 1898 until 1937 at the Papyrusabteilung of the State Museum at Berlin. After his retirement from the museum, he was professor of ancient at Leipzig University (1945-1952). Among his numerous publications (cf. Morenz, 1950, pp. 7-24) there are important books about , including Ägypten von Alexander dem Grossen bis Mohammed (Berlin, 1922) and und Theodora (, 1943), and many publications of papyri, such as “Ein lateinisch-griechisch-koptisches Gesprächsbuch” (Klio, 13, 1913, pp. 27-38) and “Christliche Predigten aus Ägypten” (Mitteilungen des archäologischen Instituts Kairo 1, 1930, pp. 93-105).

He published some texts with C. Schmidt ( Klassiker- Texte, Vol. 6, Altchristliche Texte, Berlin, 1910; Acta Pauli, Glückstadt and Hamburg, 1936) and with H. Junker (“Ein griechisch-koptisches Kirchengebet,” Zeitschrift für ägyptische Sprache und Altertumskunde 40, 1902, pp. 1-31).
