RITE JAR
This rite is performed by a priest in the case of one who committed grave sins and seeks repentance and reconciliation. After relevant readings and special prayers, the priest pours some oil in a jar full of water, saying “In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, blessed is the Almighty Father, blessed is holy Son Jesus Christ our Lord, blessed is the Holy Spirit the Comforter,” after which he sprinkles the water over the penitent.
This rite is a sort of “second” baptism; it is not published in the actual printed liturgical books but it is mentioned only in few manuscripts. However, it is no longer in use.
