PRAYER OF THE APOSTLE PAUL (NHC I, 1)
A prayer of praise and petition addressed to “The One who is” “through Jesus Christ,” written into the front flyleaf of NH Codex I. A subscript title, “Prayer of Paul [the] Apostle,” indicates that the prayer is attributable to St. Paul. Preserved only in Coptic, Prayers of the Apostle Paul is a Valentinian Gnostic text originally composed in Greek, probably in the late second or third century. Its provenience is unknown, but it could have been composed in Egypt.
