Louis Théophile Lefort (1879-1959)


A Belgian Coptologist and Orientalist. He was born at Orchimont and studied at the at Namur and the Petit Seminaire at Bastogne before going to the University of in 1901. Then he studied under Alfred Wiedemann at Bonn. He became professor and honorary of the Institute of the University of Louvain; he was also director of the journal Muséon (cf. “ L. Th. Lefort,” Muséon 59, 1946), in which most of his immense output in the field of Coptic studies was published. He died at Louvain.
