ESCHATOLOGY
Eschatology is the study of last things, hence the destiny of the world. In Greco-Roman culture, this theme was a favorite subject, and in apostolic times, Paul had to act several times to correct the erroneous eschatological views of the Corinthians. The conversion to Christianity of many pagans and Jews brought with it an intrusion of eschatological apocrypha into Christianity.
These books were always ascribed to one of the Apostles, such as the Ascension of Paul, the Apocalypse of Peter, the Apocalypse of Thomas, the Apocalypse of Stephen, and the Apocalypse of Bartholomew.
