Dayr ‘Atiyyah

DAYR ‘ATIYYAH

This place-name, which may the name of a vanished monastery, still exists today in the district of al- Ashmunayn.

Ramzi (1953-1968, Vol. 2, pt. 3, p. 200) notes that in a document of A.M. 911/A.D. 1505-1506, this dayr bears the name of Dayr Saft al-Khammar. Today it is situated in the markaz (district) of Minya; it is mentioned in the State of Provinces in 1375 (p. 689) under the name of Dayr ‘Atiyyah.

Ramzi (Vol. 1, p. 258) seems to identify this place with DAYR AL-A‘SAL.
