CONCEPT OF OUR GREAT POWER (NHC VI, 4)
A Christian Gnostic treatise dealing with “salvation history,” from creation to the end of the world. The title occurs at the end, but another title occurs at the beginning: “The Perception of Understanding: The Concept of the Great Power.” In this text, “the Great Power” refers to the transcendent God. The tractate shows signs of editorial redaction. Probably dating to the early fourth century as we now have it, earlier sources are reflected in it. Extant only in Coptic, Concept of Our Great Power was originally composed in Greek; its provenience is uncertain.
