A “secret book” purporting to be a letter written by James, the Lord’s brother, to a recipient whose name is lost in a lacuna. Apocryphon of lacks a title in the manuscript; its current title has been editorially assigned to it on the basis of its content. It contains reports of teachings given by 550 days after the to and Peter. Apocryphon of is a Gnostic of uncertain affiliation, originally in Greek as early as the mid-second century. Its provenience is unknown, but it could have been composed in Egypt.
